You really need to have to have something special ready to retain your new readers. So, hold your horses. Get a second book written, maybe not perfectly, but one that can be edited and ready in a couple of months. A full book might be too taxing. How about a novella, or two? Longer than a short story but not so much work as a full-length novel.
When you do publish, you'll have a lot of marketing to do. A LOT! Because it's a very competitive marketplace. Established authors will be getting massive advertising budgets – billboards, magazines, interviews. You – Johnny/Joanna-come-lately – don't have the big bucks or contacts.
